You Are Called: Discovering Your Gifts + Living for the Kingdom

ree

Let’s start here:

You. Are. Called.

Not maybe. Not someday. Not if you hit a certain spiritual level. You’re already chosen, already loved, already appointed to move with purpose in the Kingdom of God. This isn’t just for preachers or pastors or influencers with “Jesus” in their bios. This is for the mother. The teacher. The barista. The entrepreneur. The quiet one. The recovering one. The broken one.

> “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”

— John 15:16

This world will try to pull you into performance, into hustle, into comparison. But the Kingdom pulls you into identity—into calling. God didn’t save you to sit on the sidelines. He saved you to shine, to serve, to steward His glory in the earth.

💡 First, What Does It Mean to Be Called?

To be called means to be set apart by God for His purpose. You’re not just saved from something—you’re saved for something. And the moment you said yes to Jesus, you stepped into Kingdom citizenship, which comes with Kingdom responsibility.

> “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” — 1 Peter 2:9

You’re not called to just exist here. You’re called to impact here. To bring light. To speak truth. To carry the presence of God wherever your feet land.

🧭 How Do I Know What I’m Called to Do?

Here’s the thing: everyone’s calling is unique, but it always starts with Christ. You’re called to know Him, to follow Him, and then—through Him—make Him known. If you’re looking for your “assignment,” don’t start with your gifts or goals—start with His heart.

Ask:

What burdens me?

What breaks my heart in the world?

What comes naturally to me that builds others up?

Where do I feel God’s presence when I show up fully?

> “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

— Psalm 37:4

Your calling is often hidden in what brings you the deepest holy joy or the heaviest spiritual burden.

🎁 What Gifts Might I Have?

The Bible is clear: everyone in the body of Christ is gifted. Nobody is gift-less. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts for the good of others, not for personal gain or status. You don’t earn them. You don’t manufacture them. You receive them.

> “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.” — 1 Corinthians 12:4

Here are a few (Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4):

Teaching

Encouragement

Hospitality

Wisdom

Leadership

Healing

Prophecy

Serving

Giving

Apostleship

Evangelism

Pastoring

Discernment

Tongues + Interpretation

Biblical Example: When Moses doubted his ability to lead, God reminded him:

> “Who gave human beings their mouths? … Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” — Exodus 4:11–12

It’s not about what you think you’re good at. It’s about what God equips you for. He never calls without preparing. He always provides the grace for the assignment.

🙌 How Do I Use My Gifts for the Kingdom?

Here’s the key: use them in love and use them in motion. Don’t wait until everything feels perfect. God doesn’t need your polish. He just wants your “yes.”

> “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” — 1 Peter 4:10

Use your gifts:

In your local church (worship, teaching, prayer, service)

In your workplace (integrity, encouragement, leadership)

In your community (hospitality, generosity, wisdom)

In your online presence (truth, kindness, hope)

Biblical Example: Esther used her voice and influence to intercede for her people. Mordecai told her:

> “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14

You’re not where you are by accident. You’ve been positioned on purpose.

🛑 What Gets in the Way?

Comparison (You think someone else’s gift is better)

Fear (You feel unworthy or unqualified)

Comfort (You avoid stretching your faith)

Doubt (You’re unsure if you’re hearing God right)

But hear this:

> “The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” — Romans 11:29

You didn’t give yourself the calling, so you can’t disqualify yourself from it either. Walk boldly.

🔥 Final Word: You’re a Vessel, Not a Bystander

You’re not here to blend in. You’re not here to play small. You’re not here to just survive this life until Heaven. You are here to advance the Kingdom, to stir up faith, to plant seeds, to tear down strongholds, and to reflect Christ.

You’re called, friend. You’re gifted. You’re needed.

So pray. Surrender. Ask the Spirit to stir up what’s been buried. And then move—however He leads. Even if it’s scary. Even if it’s slow.

The Kingdom moves through people just like you.
