When God Moves, Your Body Knows

“...at which the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.”— Jeremiah 19:3
So, I was reading Jeremiah the other night—chapter 19. And I got stuck on this verse: “...a calamity at which the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.” That word—tingle—hit different.
I started thinking… what are the other ways God speaks to us? I don’t just mean the prophetic dreams or the still small voice (though those are real, too). I mean the ways your body reacts—when the presence of God shows up so strong it stirs something visceral in you. You feel it.
Because we’re not just spirit beings—we're housed in these beautifully flawed human bodies, and sometimes God will use all of it to get our attention.
Let’s talk about that. Let's talk about what it looks like when heaven brushes up against you and your body knows it—even before your brain catches up.
🔥 When Your Ears Tingle, Your Spirit's Being Alerted
That verse in Jeremiah? That’s not just poetic language. That’s God shaking the atmosphere so hard, people feel it—in their ears, in their bones. Ever had a moment when a word hit so deep it was like someone whispered truth into your soul and everything in you stood up? Yeah, that.
Here Are Some Other Physical Ways You Might Feel God Moving:
🔥 1. That Holy Fire in Your Chest
Jesus had just risen, and the disciples said, “Were not our hearts burning within us?” (Luke 24:32). That inner burning isn’t just emotion—it’s revelation. A truth drops, a verse lands, and suddenly your heart is on fire. You’re not just reading the Word—you’re meeting the Word.
🌬️ 2. Wind, Breath, and Goosebumps
Sometimes God speaks in a rush of wind (Acts 2:2), sometimes in a gentle breath (John 20:22). I’ve had moments where I literally felt a breeze in a room with no windows open—just after praying. Or those goosebumps when someone shares a testimony and the Spirit confirms, “That’s Me.”
😭 3. Tears that Don’t Need Explaining
Some of us are criers. Some of us aren’t. But when God starts peeling back the layers? Tears come out of nowhere. Not because you’re sad. Not because you’re weak.Because God is healing you, holding you, or wrecking you (in the best way). And guess what? He bottles those tears (Psalm 56:8). Not a single one goes unnoticed.
✨ 4. That Weighty Stillness
Sometimes, you just can’t move. The glory comes in, and you’re undone. You’re not sleepy. You’re not frozen. You’re just aware—God is here. And the only proper response is stillness.(2 Chronicles 5:13–14 — the priests literally couldn’t stand.)
🦋 5. That Stirring in Your Gut
You ever feel a nudge in your stomach? Like a holy “you better pay attention” kind of feeling? That’s real. That’s discernment. Jesus said rivers of living water would flow from your belly (John 7:38). That means sometimes, when something’s off—or exactly right—you’ll feel it in your gut.
🧎🏽♀️ 6. When You Drop to Your Knees Without Thinking
Sometimes your body bows before your brain can reason it out. There are moments where kneeling or lifting your hands just happens. Because your spirit is responding to something sacred. And your body follows suit.(Isaiah 6:5, Revelation 1:17)
This Walk Isn’t Just Mental—It’s Embodied
We’re so used to thinking our way through faith. But sometimes God bypasses your logic and goes straight to your body, your emotions, your senses. It’s not about chasing experiences—but it is about paying attention when they show up.
You Might Be Feeling God More Than You Realize
If your ears tingled when someone prayed for you…If your chest burned with conviction…If your legs went weak in worship…If your heart dropped when you knew He was correcting you…Don’t brush that off. That may be the Lord knocking on the door of your body and your spirit at the same time.
👂 Reflection Questions:
What physical sensations have you felt when you knew God was near?
Have you ever ignored something you felt—only to later realize it was God?
What would it look like to let your body respond to Him more freely?
📌 Closing Word:
The same God who knit you together knows how to speak to your physical frame. So next time your ears tingle, your heart races, or your knees get weak—don’t run from it. Lean in. Ask Him what He’s doing. Your body may be picking up on something your spirit is finally ready to hear.
