The Role I Played: A Midnight Reflection on Identity, Assignment, and the Scroll of Heaven

It’s midnight.
The event is over.
The music has faded, the chairs are stacked, and the last goodbye has been said. I’ve slipped off my shoes and traded the spotlight for stillness.
And in the quiet, I hear the Lord say:
“You played your role well.”
I smile. Not because I needed the affirmation, but because I know the voice. I know the way He speaks in whispers that feel like wind and confirmation that feels like home.
Tonight, I co-hosted another event—another sacred space of hugs, laughter, networking, and intentionality. I’ve always called myself the hostess with the mostest, not out of ego, but because I believe there’s power in presence. I believe in face-forward love, in greeting people like they matter, in hugging them like Heaven is near.
It’s part of what has made me known. But as I sit here in the quiet, I feel God inviting me deeper.

🎭 All the World’s a Stage…
We’ve all heard the Shakespeare line.
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”
But tonight, that line feels more than literary—it feels spiritual. Because yes, we are playing a part. But it’s not a performance. It’s a calling.
In Revelation, John speaks of a scroll:
> “Then I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll…” – Revelation 5:1
And again:
> “The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up…” – Revelation 6:14
This scroll—this divine record—is not just about the end. It’s about the in-between. The pages are being written now. And somehow, mysteriously, my life is part of it.
So is yours.
Psalm 139:16 says:
> “All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”
We are not improvising our lives.
We are walking out scenes God designed long before we took our first breath.

🧭 Identity vs. Role
This is the revelation that’s washing over me tonight.
Identity is eternal. It’s who I am in Christ: a daughter, redeemed, set apart, sealed by His Spirit.
Role, however, is seasonal. It shifts with the assignment. One day I’m a host. Another day I’m a speaker. Another, a prayer warrior in silence. But in all of it, I remain His.
So when God whispered, “You played your role well,” He wasn’t applauding a performance—He was affirming my obedience. My willingness to show up, not just as Lauren, but as a vessel. A greeter of souls. A builder of spaces. A Kingdom inviter.

📺 Reality vs. Real Eternality
Sometimes life feels like the world’s worst reality show.
Everything is broadcast. Filtered. Rehearsed. Artificial.
But there’s something deeper happening behind the scenes.
We are not just watching a script unfold.
We’re participating in the greatest redemption arc of all time.
We are not spectators—we are saints on mission.

💬 Final Thoughts: Playing the Part Heaven Wrote
So what does it all mean?
It means the hugs matter.
The hellos matter.
The way we show up in our roles—whether visible or hidden—matters eternally.
Because the scroll is still open.
The stage is still active.
And Heaven is still casting Kingdom sons and daughters into divine appointments.
When the curtain falls, and the lights fade, may we not chase claps—but crave one whisper from the Father:
“Well done.”
“You hugged them home.”
“You greeted them into grace.”
“You played your role well.”
